Police arrested a man Thursday after he nearly struck an officer with his vehicle, led authorities on a pursuit, and crashed into a patrol car on Interstate 24.
Officers charged Shawn Anglin, Jr. with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, felony evading, and multiple other offenses.
According to a preliminary investigation, officers received a license plate reader alert on Thursday, Sept. 18, for Anglin’s vehicle, which was allegedly linked to several crimes across the city. An officer located the vehicle in the Aldi parking lot on Robert Rose Drive and ordered Anglin to exit.
Instead, Anglin refused, reversed the car and nearly striking the officer with the door and then rammed the officer’s patrol vehicle, creating space to escape through a grassy area. He fled the scene, sparking a pursuit that ended when he crashed into a patrol car on I-24.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Emergency crews transported Anglin to a hospital for evaluation before he was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He is being held on $158,000 bond with a court hearing set for Nov. 4 in General Sessions Court.
