An automatic license plate reader (ALPR) alerted Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) officers to a stolen pickup truck, resulting in the arrest of a man and woman with outstanding warrants.
Kenneth Phillips, 43, the driver, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle on Sunday, Oct. 4. The passenger, Dorothy White, 34, faces charges of drug paraphernalia possession, evading and resisting arrest. Both had outstanding warrants.
An MPD officer patrolling South Rutherford Boulevard near John Bragg Highway received an alert from the ALPR about a stolen white Chevrolet 1500. After confirming with dispatch that the pickup was listed as stolen in the National Crime Information Center or NCIC, the officer conducted a felony traffic stop. White took off running but was quickly apprehended by responding officers after a brief foot pursuit.
The pickup had been reported stolen in Rutherford County. Deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office assisted in returning the vehicle to its registered owner.
Phillips and White are being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Phillip’s bond has been set at $15,000 and White at $7,500. Both are set to appear in General Sessions Court on Nov. 10.
