Police urge caution as school traffic tensions lead to arrest - Best Murfreesboro Lawyer

Murfreesboro Police Department officers arrested a 70-year-old man on harassment charges after he allegedly threatened to sit outside with a gun after becoming frustrated because parents waiting to pick up their children from school were blocking his driveway.

James Wideman was taken into custody a short time later. School Safety Division School Resource Officers charged him with harassment.

According to the preliminary investigation, Wideman called the front office at Scales Elementary School to complain about the parents in the pickup line obstructing his driveway. When school employees informed him that they couldn't resolve the issue, Wideman allegedly responded by saying he would sit in his driveway with a gun during school traffic.

School Safety Division supervisors ask parents to not block private driveways or intersections when dropping off and picking up their children from school.

Wideman was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and is being held on a $2,000 bond. A hearing is set for September 8 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
